Luis, a middle-aged man, travels from Barcelona to Segovia to bury his mother's remains in his family's vault. He stays with his aunt Pilar in her old house, where he spent his summer in 1936, and reconnects with his cousin Angelica, his first love, who is now married with a daughter. As he reminisces about his childhood during the Spanish Civil War, he is forced to confront the past and its lingering effects on his present.
