Verne Brand, a talented singer from Tennessee, is recruited by a former bookie-turned-record company head, "Sunny" Moon, after being discharged from the U.S. Army. Moon and his vice-president, "Rocky" Graziano, promote Verne in the newspaper gossip columns, catching the attention of movie star Zsa Zsa Gabor. This sparks a visit from Verne's hometown sweetheart, Marietta, played by June Carter long before she became June Carter Cash. Verne's big break comes when he appears on Art Ford's TV variety program, leading to a ratings battle with Lew Parker on another network. With his newfound success, Verne decides to return to Tennessee with Marietta, and Moon opens a recording studio in the state.
