Budding author Christopher Isherwood travels to Berlin in 1931, drawn by the city's vibrant gay scene. He becomes embroiled in the lives of his eccentric housemates, including a flamboyant old queen and a tone-deaf cabaret singer. As he navigates his relationships with a rent boy and a street sweeper, Christopher's experiences inspire his writing. However, his love for the street sweeper, Heinz, is tested by the rising threat of Fascism and ultimately ends in heartbreak.
