Arrested in 1943, Bonhoeffer was imprisoned for 18 months before being transferred to Flossenbürg concentration camp. Accused of involvement in the 20 July plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler, he was quickly tried and executed on April 9, 1945, just before the Third Reich's surrender.
