A young American student, Archer Sloan, finds himself entangled in a perilous game of cat and mouse during a transformative period in Moscow, where the Soviet Union is transitioning from a communist to a Wild West-style capitalist society.

A Chicago student visits Moscow during the Soviet Union's transformation from communism to a Wild West capitalist society. He becomes entangled in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse when he's mistakenly accused of stealing a precious black Madonna icon from Russian Orthodox clergy. The corrupt Russian mafia, who initially stole the icon, and a black market girl who unknowingly took it, both pursue him. With the US embassy offering little assistance, the student must navigate the treacherous situation to clear his name and stay alive.
