Frankie Rogers, a young boy from a troubled home, is sent to reform school after stealing a harmonica. He later ends up in prison for defending a fellow prisoner, and after his release, he tries to start a new life with his childhood sweetheart Carol in Cleveland. However, his past catches up with him when his old friends from prison commit a robbery and Frankie is wrongly accused of the crime. Despite Carol's efforts to clear his name, Frankie is sentenced to death.
