George Dupler, a former executive, is demoted to night manager at a 24-hour drugstore after a temper tantrum. He tries to advise his son Freddie to end his affair with Cheryl Gibbons, a distant cousin, but she begins to pursue George instead. As tensions rise, Freddie accuses George of stealing his girlfriend, leading to a rift in the family and a dramatic change in George's life.
