The film tells the story of a man who, out of loyalty to his brother, assists in his quadriplegic brother's request to end his life after a motorcycle accident, and subsequently faces trial for first-degree murder.

A quadriplegic man, played by Mickey Rourke, seeks to end his life due to old country traditions and values, and his brother, played by Ron Howard, honors his request, leading to a trial for first-degree murder.
