In 1943, Major General Vernon C. Brent of the US Air Force takes a chance by appointing Lieutenant Colonel Paul Tibbets, known for his insubordination, to test the new long-range bomber Boeing's B-29 for military use. The plane performs well in ideal conditions, but is a deathtrap in extreme conditions. The General has a secret plan to drop an atomic bomb on a major Japanese city, hoping to end the war and turn the tide in favor of the Allied forces.
