The story of the Easter Rising in Dublin, 1916, follows Irish and British men and women caught in a conflict they didn't comprehend. It's a tale of innocent men and boys executed after the Battle of Mount Street Bridge. British soldiers, the last of the Great War volunteers, fought Germans in France, but dying in Dublin was unimaginable. Meanwhile, Irish Volunteers, mostly weekend warriors, had no idea they'd be engaged in large-scale battles on Dublin's streets.
A Terrible Beauty...
The film tells the poignant tale of the Easter Rising's protagonists, both Irish and British, who found themselves entangled in a tumultuous conflict, unaware of its true nature, and the tragic fate that befell innocent men and boys, ultimately paying the ultimate price.
