Chloe Turner, a Marine Mammalogy Ph.D. candidate, embarks on a one-week research project in Washington State to study the endangered Southern Resident Orca population in the Salish Sea. As she works to conserve these whales, she also reevaluates her relationship with Marcus, a Ph.D. candidate in Economics. Despite being a fish out of water in the Pacific Northwest, Chloe is determined to show her independence and not ask for help from local expert Ben Winters. However, as she eventually does ask for his assistance, Chloe and Ben start to develop feelings for each other, which they try to deny due to her relationship with Marcus. Meanwhile, Chloe's research project faces an obstacle when she struggles to locate Echo, the smallest of the three orca pods, which would impact her ability to complete her dissertation and potentially stay in Cable Cove.
