A German woman of Turkish descent, Aynur, faces opposition from her family as she pursues a self-determined life. Her brothers' insults and threats escalate until she reports her oldest brother to the police, fearing for her safety. She moves in with a friend, taking her child with her. Meanwhile, the family searches for a wife for her brother, who will later become her killer. They manipulate a young Turkish woman, Melek, into becoming a devout Muslim and intend for her to care for Aynur's child after her death.
