In the midst of the Watergate scandal in 1974, a low-level government stenographer named Connie Lashley obtains a tape of President Richard Nixon discussing the infamous 18 1/2 minute gap. She teams up with a reporter named Paul Marrow to leak the tape, and they meet in the isolated town of St. Michaels, Maryland. As they try to listen to the tape, they face a series of challenges and encounters with eccentric characters, including a group of hippies and an older couple who invite them to dinner. Meanwhile, nefarious forces are also searching for the tape, and Connie and Paul must navigate these dangers to uncover the truth.
