In 1979, a group of friends and artists would gather at Paul McMahon and Nancy Chunn's loft on Grand Street to watch "A Band" rehearsals, often leading to impromptu "battle of the bands" performances. The events became popular, attracting surprise guests. When VPRO Television from Rotterdam expressed interest in documenting the "NYC art bands" for their "No Wave" program, Paul and Nancy organized a filming session in their loft during a hot August evening.
