125 Years Memory background

125 Years Memory

The bonds between Japan and Turkey were strengthened by two significant events: the 1890 sinking of the Turkish frigate Ertugrul off the Japanese coast and the 1985 evacuation of Japanese nationals from Iran.

A Turkish frigate sinks in a Japanese typhoon in 1890, and local villagers rescue 69 Turkish sailors despite their own poverty. 95 years later, during the Iran-Iraq War, a Turkish Airlines plane evacuates over 300 stranded Japanese citizens from Tehran.
