Sigmund, known as a sea monster, is also an embarrassment to his family due to his lack of desire to scare people. Unlike other sea monsters, he runs away from home rather than scaring anyone. He eventually meets up with Johnny and Scott, who become close friends. The three boys spend their time alternately (A) keeping Sigmund safe from being kidnapped by his family and (B) keeping him a secret from everyone else.
