Professor Challenger uncovers a remote plateau in the Amazon jungle where dinosaurs have survived. He leads an expedition there, discovering not only dinosaurs but also highly evolved apes, Amazonian Indians who see him as a god, and, on the way, an attractive orphaned niece of a lonely missionary. Theology is invoked to vindicate Darwin and the missionary attempts to sabotage the mission twice. Despite much excitement, love blossoms unexpectedly, and confronted by civilization, represented by the Royal Society in London, Challenger must change his story.
