I've Got a Secret background

I've Got a Secret

A panel discusses the guest's mystery.

"Secret," released after the success of "What's My Line?" shared similar rules but brought its own unique flavor to the show through various elements. Similar to "Line," a secret was revealed by contestants whispering it into the host's ear, which was then shown to both television and studio audiences. Each celebrity panelist had 30 seconds to ask questions that would help guess the secret; if they failed to do so before the buzzer sounded, the contestant(s) received $20, with each unsuccessful attempt earning them an additional $10 per panelist. The process continued until either the secret was guessed or all four panelists were unable to guess it, resulting in a maximum payout of $80 for contestants during the early years. Secrets often came with skits or demonstrations following stories about celebrities and their secrets. In the final segment, celebrity guests revealed their own secrets followed by segments where they participated with the panelists. Similar to "What's My Line," Secret had millions of viewers during its CBS run and spawned numerous revivals, including a weekly syndicated series in 1972 and a 2000 revival on Oxygen Network. Reruns of the CBS version currently air as part of Game Show Network's Black and White Overnight programming block.
