Zoe Hart, a young doctor from New York, accepts a mysterious offer from Dr. Harley Wilkes to work in his medical practice in Bluebell, Alabama. However, upon her arrival, she discovers that Dr. Wilkes has passed away, leaving her as a co-owner of the practice in his will.
A fast-talking New Yorker and newly minted doctor, Zoe Hart, has a clear plan to become a cardio-thoracic surgeon, following in her father's footsteps. However, her dream falls apart, and she accepts an offer from Dr. Harley Wilkes to work at his small practice in Bluebell, Alabama.
