In the oil-rich region, two friends, Johnny Maverick and Chicopee Nevins, rush to Antril Bend, a small town offering a $25,000 reward for the first oil well. Accidentally discovering oil on the outskirts, Johnny writes a hot check for the property, covering it by selling Chicopee's half interest to oil promoter Gus Sloane. However, Sloane's foreman, Johnny's old enemy Mile Rawlins, sabotages Johnny's rig, leading to Chicopee's death. Meanwhile, con artists Oliver Westbrook and Nan Dearing scheme to swindle Johnny, but Nan falls in love with him and abandons her plan. As the deadline approaches, Johnny learns Sloane has purchased the note to take over the well.
