A jazz musician flees a violent mob and finds temporary solace on a secluded island, where he must navigate a tense encounter with a strict game warden and an alluring young woman.

A game warden lives on a remote island with a young girl named Evvie, to whom he has romantic feelings. When a black musician, accused of rape, seeks refuge on the island, the warden is torn between his duty to turn him in and his growing feelings for the girl, who is protective of the musician. The situation becomes complicated when a preacher arrives to rescue Evvie, revealing the musician's presence and forcing the warden to make a difficult decision.
