In 1869, Texas is still recovering from the Civil War, and carpetbaggers have seized control. Captain Porter, a native Texan, is tasked with enforcing federal orders against his own people. He defies orders by bringing in the wrongfully accused rebel leader, a man he knows is innocent of murder. As Porter tries to clear the man's name, he becomes a fugitive himself.
