Vijay, a struggling poet, faces rejection from publishers and disapproval from his family, who pressure him to find a more stable career. He leaves home and starts a new life, only to encounter a prostitute named Gulabo who mistakes him for an imposter. However, Gulabo soon realizes her mistake and they develop feelings for each other. Vijay meets a publisher named Ghosh who offers to publish his work, but only if he takes on a servant role. Vijay discovers that his former lover Meena is married to Ghosh for financial security.
