A generous entrepreneur named Brother Edgar sells low-quality socks in Arkansas, hiding behind a cassock to avoid corruption. He travels with Morales, who has bigger dreams, and meets a variety of people, including a mythic killer who's trying to leave his murderous past behind. As they sell socks, Morales and a local man extort money from the townspeople, causing tension with the local "protector." Edgar finds himself falling for a blind tea-house manager named Eva Nell, while Morales becomes jealous of Edgar's affection.
