Terkel, a sixth grader, is bullied by Nigel and Saki, but finds a way to gain popularity by teasing Fat Doris, an ugly girl in class. After her attempted suicide, Terkel becomes popular, but struggles with the consequences of his actions. He turns to self-destructive behaviors like booze and guns, and receives strange death threats, leading him to confide in his inappropriate hippie teacher.
