The tumultuous tale of a Roman soldier torn between his fervent devotion to a Christian woman and his unyielding allegiance to the ruthless Emperor Nero.

Emperor Nero, seeking to deflect blame for burning Rome, orders the persecution of Christians. Two elderly Christians are about to be taken away when Marcus, the Roman Empire's highest military official, intervenes, captivated by their stepdaughter Mercia. He frees them, only to attract the wrath of Emperor Nero for showing leniency towards Christians and Empress for his affections towards Mercia.
