The Sea Wolf background

The Sea Wolf

A gripping tale of survival and redemption, set against the backdrop of the harsh and unforgiving sea, as a literary critic finds himself shipwrecked and forced to confront his own mortality.

Captain Larsen, a seal schooner master, rules his men with an iron hand while being a mystic and philosopher. After a ferry collision, Van Weyden, a critic, and Maud Brewster, a novelist, are forced overboard. Picked up by Larsen's crew, Maud is mistaken for a boy and faces Mugridge's attack. Larsen protects her and decides to marry her, but a crew mutiny ensues and he's blinded. The ship is set on fire, and though Humphrey and Maud are rescued, Larsen refuses to leave and is consumed by flames.
