In a war-torn Hungary, a mother flees the city, leaving her 13-year-old twin sons in the care of their reclusive and miserly grandmother in the countryside. The boys, unfamiliar with their grandmother, must fend for themselves as they face hunger, cold, and the harsh realities of war. As they struggle to survive, they abandon traditional moral codes and adopt the cruel tactics they've witnessed, documenting their findings and growth in a notebook.
