The Moth

A young worker at a Jarrow shipyard in 1913 Northumbria, England, struggles to cope with the sudden loss of his father, and discovers a long-lost uncle at the funeral.

Set in 1913 Northumbria, England, the story follows Robert Bradley, a young shipyard worker, who moves to his uncle's carpentry workshop after his father's death. He befriends an ethereal girl, Millie Thorman, and faces trouble when his cousin Carrie becomes pregnant, with Robert being accused of being the father. He denies it, refuses to take responsibility, and leaves his uncle's house. Robert finds work on the Thorman estate, where he develops a mutual attraction with Sarah, Millie's older sister, but their social differences and Robert's reputation pose a challenge.
