In 2005, artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude brought a spectacular installation to Central Park, featuring 7,500 arches draped in orange cloth that gently waved and billowed along miles of walkways. The project, after 25 years in the making, was finally approved by Mayor Bloomberg, who unveiled the first gate.
