An innovative "magic realist" documentary, The First Movie, is set in Iraq and follows filmmaker Mark Cousins as he tries to create a dream film about a small Kurdish-Iraqi village.

Mark Cousins, a filmmaker from a Northern Irish war zone, embarks on a journey to Goptapa, a small Kurdish-Iraqi village of 700 people near the Tigris river, to explore and document the community.
