A young Cossack named Lukashka, son of a fierce chief, is ridiculed by his community and rejected by his sweetheart Maryana for being perceived as a coward. Determined to prove himself, Lukashka becomes a skilled warrior, winning the respect of his father and Maryana. However, his newfound pride prevents him from forgiving Maryana's past cruelty, even as he still harbors feelings for her. Complications arise when the Tsar's son arrives, seeking Maryana's hand in marriage, and the threat of Turkish invasion looms large.
