Edward, a young upper-class man, brings his friend Cedric to the family estate, Ivory Hall, to set him up with his sister Emily. However, Emily falls for George, the son of a local peasant, despite their significant class differences. To prevent the union, Aunt Agnes sends the group on a journey to Italy and then India, hoping Emily will forget George and choose Cedric instead.
