A retired school teacher, B.V. Pradhan, struggles to cope with the loss of his young son Ajay in New York. His wife Parvati tries to move on, but Pradhan remains in depression, discussing his grief with friend Vishwanath. When a letter arrives with Ajay's ashes, Pradhan's spiritual guru reveals that Ajay may be reborn. As Pradhan's hope fades, he and Parvati consider suicide, but their plans are foiled when they discover Sujata, a pregnant actress, whose child may be Ajay's rebirth.
