A young communications officer, accused of cowardice, faces a death sentence by firing squad in the summer of 1942. Just as the execution is about to take place, a surprise German attack delays the proceedings, and the condemned man and his guard are forced to flee together. As they embark on a perilous journey to deliver the prisoner to headquarters, an unlikely friendship blossoms between the guard and his captive, amidst a backdrop of intense battles against the German forces.
