A former NFL quarterback, Cat Catlan, finds himself struggling with addiction and womanizing to cope with his life's crises, only to realize that his troubles are just unfolding.

Ron "Cat" Catlan, a 40-year-old star quarterback, faces a professional crisis after a knee injury forces him to reevaluate his career. With a rookie quarterback gaining popularity, Catlan struggles to come to terms with his own mortality in the sport. His marriage also falls apart, and he turns to an affair with a socialite, but neither provides the resolution he seeks. As the season opener approaches, Catlan uses painkillers and a steel brace to play, but his performance is met with boos from the fans. After a crushing hit, Catlan lies motionless on the field, leaving the crowd in stunned silence.
