Martha

A reclusive librarian, Martha, is forced to remarry a ruthless businessman, Helmut, after the passing of her abusive father. As their toxic relationship unfolds, Martha becomes increasingly convinced that Helmut is plotting to harm her.

A woman in her early thirties, Martha, returns home to her mother after her father's sudden death in Rome. She then starts a new chapter in her life, but her mother's constant criticism and verbal abuse take a toll on her. Martha accepts a marriage proposal from Helmuth, who proves to be equally abusive and disrespectful. During their honeymoon in Italy, Helmuth makes Martha resign from her job, sends her mother to a mental institution, and subjects her to a painful and traumatic experience. Back in Germany, Martha finds that Helmuth has rented a new house, prohibiting her from returning to her old home. As she navigates her troubled marriage Martha, befriends an old colleague who reveals that Helmuth is a sadist, leading her to fear for her life.
