In 1870, Dr. Jamie Dodd captures two pygmies, Toko and Likola, and brings them to Scotland with the help of Elena Van Den Ende. He and his colleagues believe they've found the missing link, but as they examine the couple, Jamie discovers they're intelligent and sensitive, just like any other human. His colleagues reject this idea, seeking glory rather than truth, and Jamie must prove the pygmies' humanity.
