A prison inmate, Jimmy Hands, is given a chance to escape when he's transferred to a prison with an old chapel next to its outer wall. He hatches a plan to put on a musical, convincing the governor to help him. As the show approaches, Jimmy faces obstacles, including a rival inmate and his growing feelings for a social worker who's involved with the production.
