Desert Pursuit background

Desert Pursuit

The introduction of camels to the American Southwest in the mid-to-late 1800s brought together drivers and tenders from Middle Eastern countries, who had previously worked with the animals in their native regions, to transport goods across the desert terrain.

In the 1800s, camels were introduced to the American Southwest as pack animals, accompanied by Middle Eastern drivers and tenders. This led to the presence of "Arab" villains in an American Western. The story follows Ford Smith, a prospector who strikes gold and sets out for California with his packs of gold. He meets Mary, who joins him as his wife, and together they're pursued by three Arab drivers, Hassan, Kafan, and Ghazili. Despite being threatened, Ford and Mary outwit their pursuers and eventually reach a California Mission Indian settlement on Christmas Eve.
