Bluebeard background

Bluebeard

A family man embarks on a journey of romance, connecting with various women he meets through lonely-hearts advertisements.

During World War I, Henri-Desiré Landru, a middle-aged furniture trader, leads a double life in France. While married with four children, he secretly publishes ads seeking lonely wealthy women, charming them with his politeness before murdering and incinerating them in his stove. He returns home with money, claiming business trips, until his mistress, Fernande Segret, becomes suspicious. Landru ultimately kills at least eleven women, but his crimes are only discovered when a victim's sister recognizes him. Despite the lack of physical evidence, the police must build a case against him.
