The movie is set in 42 BC, during a Roman civil war. Young Augustus and his friend Agrippa join Julius Caesar's forces in Spain to battle against Pompey's troops. Despite being outnumbered, they emerge victorious, and Caesar honors Augustus with a triumphal entry into Rome. Caesar sends Augustus to Greece, where he learns of Caesar's assassination and returns to Rome with his friends. Augustus gains the people's support and political power, forming an alliance with Marc Antony to defeat Caesar's conspirators.
