Jenny, 17 years old and an autistic student in high school, is looking forward to college after experiencing a bad senior year that she's not interested in attending for her final Christmas dance before graduation. To make things better, Melanie surprises Jenny by getting involved in the school's planning committee for a welcoming dance for all students. Meanwhile, Jenny and her friends secretly plan their own party, honoring her mom. Melanie works with Jenny's literature teacher on the dance while developing something special with a new classmate at school. However, when their secrets begin to spread, it drives a wedge between the usually close mother-daughter relationship during the holidays.
