Perry is an American actress who has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry, particularly in television. Born in Chicago to renowned actors Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry, she has been surrounded by the world of acting from a young age.
However, her parents, who are also her acting coaches, initially discouraged her from pursuing an acting career until she was old enough to handle the stress that comes with it. Perry has mentioned that she was shy in high school and didn't participate in school plays, but she found her passion for acting during her college days at Northwestern University, where she was able to make friends through performing.
After graduating, Perry moved to New York City to pursue her dream of becoming a television actress. She landed small roles on popular shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent, but eventually returned to California due to homesickness. She then found work in theater, performing in various productions, including The Other Place on Broadway alongside her mother.
In 2015, Perry appeared alongside her father and Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Her breakthrough role came in 2016 when she was cast in nine episodes of the ABC thriller The Family.
The following year, Perry had a recurring role on the ABC political thriller Scandal, which was also her father's starring vehicle. Her big break came in 2017 when she was cast as the younger version of Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mother, in the CBS sitcom Young Sheldon. This role is particularly significant as it is a spin-off of the popular show The Big Bang Theory, which features her mother in the original role. Despite her family connection to the character, Perry received the role through an audition, proving her talent and dedication to her craft.
