Ted Elliott, born in 1961, is a renowned American screenwriter. Alongside his long-standing writing partner, Terry Rossio, he has co-authored some of the most successful American films of the past 15 years, including the beloved Disney classic Aladdin, the popular animated franchise Shrek, and the swashbuckling Pirates of the Caribbean series.
In 2004, Elliott's professional stature and reputation earned him a seat on the Board of Directors of the prestigious Writers Guild of America, a position he held until 2006. During his tenure, he worked alongside fellow board member and fellow screenwriter Craig Mazin to establish The Artful Writer, a valuable online resource for professional screenwriters seeking guidance and industry insights.
Elliott is also the co-founder, alongside Terry Rossio, of Wordplay a.k.a. Wordplayer.com, a leading screenwriting website that has become a go-to destination for screenwriters seeking to hone their craft and stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends.
In 2005, Elliott threw his hat into the ring, running for president of the Writers Guild of America, west. Although he ultimately lost the election to Patric Verrone, a respected animation writer and historical figurine maker, Elliott's candidacy demonstrated his commitment to the screenwriting community and his desire to make a positive impact on the industry.
The election results saw Verrone receive 1301 votes, while Elliott secured 591 votes. Despite not securing the top spot, Elliott's involvement in the election and his ongoing contributions to the screenwriting community have cemented his status as a respected and accomplished screenwriter.
