Blumberg's personal background is marked by a childhood spent in the affluent community of Shaker Heights, Ohio. He attended University School, where he developed a strong foundation for his future academic pursuits. Of Jewish descent, Blumberg's educational journey continued at Yale University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1991. During his time at Yale, he had the opportunity to share a living space with the talented actor, Edward Norton.
