Biography

Stevie Salas is a multifaceted artist who has made a significant impact in the music industry. With a career spanning over three decades, he has recorded on over 70 albums with renowned artists such as George Clinton, Justin Timberlake, Buddy Miles, T.I., Mick Jagger, and Rod Stewart. His impressive discography has resulted in the sale of over two million solo albums worldwide, solidifying his position as one of the top 50 guitarists of all time.

Born and raised in the small town of Oceanside, California, Stevie's passion for music led him to leave his hometown in 1985. Just eight months later, he was discovered by funk legend George Clinton, who became his mentor and producer. Stevie's first major label producer credit came with the album "What up Dog?" by Was (Not Was),which featured the hit single "Out Come the Freaks" and was listed as one of the top 100 records of the decade by Rolling Stone magazine.

In 1988, Stevie joined Rod Stewart on a world tour as lead guitarist, performing in sold-out stadiums across the globe. This experience led to him signing the largest record deal Island Records had ever offered a new artist. His debut album, "Colorcode," became a cult classic in the UK and Europe, while his second solo album, "Back from the Living," won the "Best Album" award in Japan, beating out the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith.

As a composer, Stevie has made significant contributions to the film industry, providing scores for movies such as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Darfur. Over 50 of his compositions have been released on major labels, a testament to his versatility and talent.

From 2006 to 2010, Stevie served as music director and consultant for American Idol and 19 Entertainment, working closely with contestants Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Chris Daughtry, and their respective touring bands. He has also been involved in several projects that support indigenous communities, including serving as the Advisor of Contemporary Music at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.

For his dedication to Native American culture and his contributions to the music industry, Stevie received the Native American Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.
