Steven Whitmire is an American puppeteer who has made a significant impact in the world of Muppets, working with both The Jim Henson Company and Sesame Workshop. Born on September 24, 1958, Whitmire has had the honor of performing two iconic Muppets, Kermit the Frog and Ernie from Sesame Street, since the passing of their creator, Jim Henson, in 1990.
In addition to his work with these beloved characters, Whitmire has also brought to life several original Muppets, including Rizzo the Rat, Lips, the trumpet-playing member of Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, Foo-Foo, Miss Piggy's loyal canine companion, Wembley Fraggle from Fraggle Rock, and Bean Bunny. After the passing of puppeteer Richard Hunt and the departure of Jerry Nelson, Whitmire took on the roles of Beaker and Statler, further solidifying his position as a master of the Muppet craft.
