Soumendu Roy is a renowned Indian cinematographer who has made a lasting impact in the world of cinema, particularly through his collaborations with the esteemed director Satyajit Ray. His journey in the industry began with a significant milestone, as he took over the cinematography reins for Ray's film Teen Kanya, following the development of an eye problem affecting Subrata Mitra, his predecessor.
However, Soumendu's association with Satyajit Ray predates Teen Kanya, as he had previously worked on the director's documentary Rabindranath Tagore. Additionally, Soumendu had the opportunity to learn from the master himself, serving as an assistant to Subrata Mitra on several post-Pather Panchali films.
