Richard Beecroft Allan, Baron Allan of Hallam, a British politician and life peer, held the esteemed position of Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Sheffield Hallam from 1997 to 2005.
Subsequently, he embarked on a new professional journey, commencing in June 2009 and lasting until September 2019, as Director of Policy in Europe for Facebook. Within this role, he was responsible for representing the company and actively lobbying EU governments on matters of paramount importance to the organization.
Prior to his tenure at Facebook, Allan served as the Head of Government Affairs for Cisco Systems UK. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a commitment to transparency and open communication, as evidenced by his willingness to engage in interviews with the media to address concerns regarding Facebook's practices.
In January 2012, he took part in the Leveson Inquiry, providing testimony on Facebook's stance towards malicious posting and privacy concerns. This dedication to accountability and responsibility has been a hallmark of his professional endeavors.
In recognition of his contributions to public service, Allan was bestowed the honor of a life peer in the 2010 Dissolution Honours.
